As businesses and individuals rely increasingly on their website, and as more information is stored in website databases, the importance of the data grows. Whilst most businesses perform a regular office backup, this does not usually include the website files or data.
We have always offered very low cost hosting, and would like to continue to do so. Backup options are therefore being offered as an add-on service, rather than increasing our standard hosting charges.
Since Flipside started hosting websites for clients in 1996 we have always kept a local copy of all website files. When client's websites began to hold business critical information in databases it was necessary to implement an automated weekly backup from each site. A hard disc failure in one of our web servers highlighted the fact that a weekly backup was not sufficient for sites with frequently changing data. To overcome this problem a much more frequent and robust backup solution has been developed.
Each website is different, so our solutions are tailored to your needs. We can also offer bespoke backup solutions on request.
There are 2 aspects of a website to backup, the files that make up the site, i.e. text, images and downloads, and secondly the data stored in a website database for a dynamic site, i.e. product / customer / order details for an e-commerce site, or guestbook entries, events listings etc. for other sites.
