TOTNES...
...Gateway to the South Hams
An ancient market town and river port since the 10th Century, Totnes is the second oldest borough in England and one of Devon's gems. Enjoying a prominent position above the River Dart the town has all the colour and character you might expect from such a rich cultural and historical heritage.
From its attractive riverside cafes, restaurants and steamer quay at the lower end of the town to its famous Norman Castle at the top, residents and visitors alike can enjoy a stroll up the main street which boasts an excellent array of privately owned shops, fine examples of medieval architecture, a museum and of course, the East Gate Arch, a superb Tudor structure.
Essential facilities in and around Totnes include two supermarkets, a sports centre, secondary and primary schools. Nearby Dartington College of Arts also offers a large range of activities.
The town has a main line railway station and access to the A38 is approximately 6 miles away. Dartmoor National Park and the great beaches and sailing facilities of Torbay and the South Hams are all easily accessible.
